Karhal violence: 9 more arrested

Agra: Nine more persons were arrested in Karhal in Mainpuri even as the town slowly limped back to normalcy following disturbance over cow slaughter rumours.

District officials said conditions are now back to normal and the shops had reopened in the market.

It was claimed that nine persons, including local BJP leader Rakesh Chandel and a relative of a local corporator, were arrested yesterday.

Today, a delegation of Bhartiya Janata Party was prevented from entering Karhal town.

BJP District President Alok Gupta said over a hundred workers of the party had been taken into custody but released later in the evening.

Samajwadi Party General Secretary Ram Gopal claimed that efforts were being made to disturb peace and poison the atmosphere but the government was alert and would do everything to maintain harmony.
