Jodhpur Central Jail seeks enhanced security for Asaram

Singh said amid incidents of attacks on the prosecution witnesses at regular intervals, the possibility of an attack on Asaram could not be ruled out

Jodhpur Central Jail administration has sought enhanced security for Asaram during his daily transit between jail and the court.

“We have sought more security cover for Asaram from jail to the court to and fro,” Jail Superintendent Vikram Singh said on Tuesday. Singh said amid incidents of attacks on the prosecution witnesses at regular intervals, the possibility of an attack on him could not be ruled out and added that an application demanding enhanced security has been given to the police administration. “Somebody could do it out of revenge or even those who are against him, could find him easy target enroute,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have termed “adequate” the security cover for him during transit and in the court premises. “We have deployed 75 policemen roped in for security of Asaram during transit and the witnesses at the court during the hearing of the case,” Police Commissioner Ashok Kumar Rathore said.

“Besides this, the security at every level is reviewed on a day-to-day basis by rotating the turn of the senior officers in order to make all the security arrangements foolproof,” Rathore said. Asaram is taken to court in ”Vajra” (armoured vehicle) of the police, which is escorted by 4 police vehicles.
