JD (U) hopes Govt., Congress come on board on GST

New Delhi: Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav today lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to invite Congress president Sonia Gandhi and his predecessor Dr. Manmohan Singh to discuss the GST Bill.

“This initiative taken by the government is good if it gives a new way to solve the issue. We are in support of this bill. Let’s see if a path is found by this initiative of the government,” he said.

“When there will be a debate in the Parliament, we will discuss everything in detail,” he added when asked about his stand on the issue of the passage of GST Bill.

In a move to reach out to the opposition for the passage of key legislations in Parliament, Prime Minister Modi has invited Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Singh for tea this evening.

The meeting, which will take place at the Prime Minister’s official 7, Race Course Road residence, is significant as the government and Congress are at loggerheads on the passage of crucial legislations like the GST Bill.

The Congress has expressed three amendments that they wish to see in the Bill. They want to cap the rate of GST at less than 20 percent, scrap a proposed state levy and create an independent mechanism to resolve disputes on revenue sharing between the states. (ANI)
