Jagan lashes out at AP govt for ‘wasting’ Assembly session

YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today alleged that the ruling TDP ‘avoided’ discussion on the call money racket and other key issues during the winter session of Andhra Pradesh Assembly, and indulged in opposition-bashing.

“With the burning issue of call money-cum-sex racket not being allowed to come up for discussion by using diversionary tactics, TDP government has put the wind out of the sails of assembly session and it has lost its way in bashing opposition party and the undue suspension of our party MLA R K Roja,” he said.

The five-day winter session concluded yesterday.

YSR Congress had boycotted the last two days in protest against the suspension of Roja for one year for allegedly making unparliamentary comments on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the House not continuing the debate on the ‘call money racket’.

The racket (involving private money lenders and alleged sexual exploitation of some women borrowers) was not discussed as some key players involved in it were closely associated with TDP leaders and many ruling party functionaries were in fact part of the racket, Jaganmohan Reddy claimed.

“It is not a good parliamentary practice to pass the bills in the absence of opposition party. We boycotted the session when the treasury benches did not allow a discussion on the call money racket and refuse to revoke Roja’s suspension. The government introduced eight bills and passed five of them. This is not in good taste,” he said.
