Indrani Mukerjea’s condition critical

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, prime accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, is in critical condition, Dean of Sir JJ Hospital, TP Lahane said on Saturday.

While updating the mediapersons about Indrani’s health condition, Lahane said the former media honcho is critical and the next 48 hours will be crucial.

Indrani, accused of killing her daughter Sheena Bora, is alleged to have attempted suicide by consuming pills in jail on Friday.

43-year-old Indrani was rushed from the Arthur Road jail and admitted to the JJ Hospital after she complained of “uneasiness” on Friday.

Earlier today, Lahane said, “Indrani is in a semi conscious state and will be under treatment and observation at the hospital for three more days.”

“Necessary blood and urine tests were carried out and a team of CBI officials was also briefed on her medical condition,” another doctor at the hospital said.

A senior home department official Satvir Singh said Indrani was prescribed to take two pills for epileptic problems, one in morning and one in evening, under the supervision of the jail authorities.

However, she apparently hoarded the tablets and took them at one go early on Friday leading to her present condition, he said, adding the matter would be probed.

Indrani, wife of former STAR INdia CEO, was arrested on August 25 for her role in the murder of Sheena Bora, her daughter from a previous marriage, in April 2012. The two other accused in the case are Shyamvar Rai, Indrani’s former driver and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.

The sensational case was initially handled by Mumbai Police under the supervision of the then police commissioner Rakesh Maria and later transferred to the CBI by the Maharashtra government.

The CBI lodged a separate case against the three late last month.

Since September 7, Indrani, Khanna and Rai have been lodged in judicial custody.
