India subdue Spain 2-0 to level three-match series

New Delhi, Aug 12 : The Indian men’s hockey team produced a much improved performance as they claimed a convincing 2-0 win over Spain to level the three-match series 1-1 in the second game at Sant Cugat del Valles on Wednesday.

Ramandeep Singh put India ahead in the second quarter before he provided a well-worked pass to Akashdeep Singh, who then netted the second goal proficiently in the 33rd minute.

The Sardar Singh-led team, who are ranked eighth in the FIH Rankings, displayed an overall aggressive show and fended off Spanish attack from scoring.

The tourists had earlier suffered a 1-4 defeat against Spain in their opening game of the second tier of European tour.

India had started their European tour in an imperious style as they claimed a 2-0 series win over France before venturing into Spain.

This is a preparatory tour for the upcoming World League Final which will be held in India later this year. India have already booked their spot for next year’s Rio Olympics.

India will play their third and decisive match against Spain on August 13 at Terrassa. (ANI)
