India, Russia unite against terrorism

Moscow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed condolences for the loss of lives in the terrorist attack on Russian aircraft and said that the two nations believed that the world must unite against terrorism, without distinction and discrimination between terrorist groups and target countries.

“Mr. President, I have great respect and appreciation for our strategic partnership. It has been a source of strength and success for India. As I look to the future, I see Russia as a significant partner in India’s economic transformation and in shaping a balanced, multi-polar world,” Prime Minister Modi said while delivering a join-statement with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the agreement between the two nations on the manufacture of Kamov 226 helicopter in India and said that it was the first project for a major defence platform under the Make in India mission.

“The pace of our cooperation in nuclear energy is increasing. We are making progress on 12 Russian nuclear reactors at two sites,” Prime Minister Modi said.

While addressing the joint-statement, Russian President Putin also noted that India has allotted one more ground for a nuclear power plant of Russian design.

“Russia assists in building several power generating units at the Kudankulam nuclear plant,” he said, recalling that the first unit that was commissioned here in June 2014.

” Russian specialists plan to get down to building power units No. 3 and No. 4 there shortly and talks on building units No. 5 and No. 6 are underway,” he added. (ANI)
