Hyd Serial blast case: After 20 years Ansari finally acquitted

22 years after a series of blasts rocked pockets of Hyderabad, the alleged mastermind Dr Jaleel Ansari was acquitted by the VII Additional Metropolitan Magistrate on Monday. Three people were killed and several injured in the six blasts that occurred between Aug 12 and Dec 6, 1993 in Hyderabad.

In 2007 a local court was acquitted the other nine accused Shamshuddin, Zaheeruddin Ahmed, Azeemuddin, Nazeeruddin, Mohammed Yousuf, Mohammed Ansari and M Gouse, Pasha and Aziz Akbar on the base of insufficient evidence against them.

20 years after he was charged of the crime Dr. Ansari, 58 declared innocent. However, he continues to serve two life terms awarded to him in other terror cases.

Ansari who was happy on his acquittance says he was falsely accused in the blast case.

“20 years on I have lost my golden years of life, now who will compensate for this?”, asks Ansari. “I have two sons and five daughters, will govt take care of their future?, he questioned?

Ansari’s trial in Hyderabad began in 2013. He has been lodged in Cherlapally and then Warangal jails.

According to NIE news, report suggests that Ansari, who was once a practicing doctor, has been accused in over 60 bomb blasts across the country. Earlier this year, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) moved Dr Ansari from Ajmer district prison on a prisoners transit warrant to the city.

He was arrested from Mumbai in January 1994. On Monday, he was acquitted in all four cases pertaining to Hyderabad. However, there are 24 other blast cases pending trial or judgment in Maharashtra against him.
