Heavy rains lash twin cities; normal life affected

Heavy rains, accompanied by thunder, lashed many parts of the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Saturday morning. Motorists and two-wheeler drivers had a tough time as several main roads were water-logged due to the rains.

Many low-lying areas were also flooded. The heavy rain lashed LB Nagar, Dilsukhnagar, Kothapet, Tarnaka, Osmania University area, Lalaguda, Habsiguda, Nacharam, Mallapur, Secunderabad. Some trees on the premises of Fever Hospital at Nallakunta were uprooted. The roof of VIII Ward in the hospital was destroyed as trees fell on the building. There was no loss of life as the ward was empty. Another tree in front of the 18th Ward was also uprooted and movement of patients and hospital staff was affected.  

Meanwhile, the weather office said the city and other parts of Telangana may receive more rains during the next 48 hours. (NSS)
