HC allows GHMC plea to hold elections by Jan. 31

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today informed the High Court that it would conduct elections before January 31 next year.

The High Court has announced its decision after hearing a petition filed by Telangana Government over delay in conducting GHMC Elections and directed the Telangana Government to conduct elections to GHMC before January 31, 2016. The court also directed the government to complete all the preparations for elections by December 15.

Earlier, the High Court had directed the government to complete election process by December. However, there were allegations against the GHMC authorities on deletion of lakhs of voters in the city. The GHMC informed the court attributing the delay to linking of Aadhar and division of wards and sought one-month time for conducting the elections. For the second time, the High Court fixed deadline for conduct of GHMC elections. (NSS)
