Haryana govt committed to farmers’ welfare: Khattar

Sonipat:Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said the state government was fully committed towards the upliftment and welfare of the farmers.

Addressing a gathering of farmers in Manauli village here, he said for their prosperity, the farmers were being encouraged to diversify their cropping pattern from traditional crops to cash crops for better profits.

Besides, he said, the Haryana government had opened centres of excellence for fruits and vegetables and was going to set up a horticulture university in the state.

“The proposal of Agro-Tourism is also being given serious consideration,” Khattar added.

Appreciating the farmers of Manauli village, he said agriculture scientists were already working on developing new techniques for increasing productivity but the farmers of the village had made farming a profitable business by adopting modern technology at their own level.

The soil of Manauli is very fertile and it would have been totally incorrect to give this land for mining purposes and in view of this, the state government has cancelled the decision of mining in this area, Khattar, who also inspected the crops grown by farmers in poly house, said.

He said that with the support of progressive farmers, agriculture in Haryana would get a boost and due to the close proximity of Delhi, farmers have the availability of a big market for the sale of their agri-produce.

The villagers presented the Chief Minister with a wooden plough and a basket full of agricultural produce cultivated through modern techniques.

Meanwhile, speaking at a separate function here, Khattar said the Sikhs have a proud history and noted there are thousands of such examples where Sikhs had laid down their lives for protecting the nation and serving the humanity.

“Only by making the concept of a discrimination-free society real, we can realise the dream of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the people at a function organised to observe the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

The function was organised by Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee at Badkhalsa memorial in this district.

Khattar appealed to the people of every community to rise above the narrow consideration of caste and class to take the state further on the path of development.

“We have also given the slogan ‘Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek’,” he said, according to an official release.
