Harish team to visit Maharashtra to discuss projects

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao will be leading an official team to Maharashtra to sort out issues of Tummidihatti and Medigadda barrages. He will hold talks with his Maharashtra counterpart Girish Mahajan at Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur at 1.30 pm.

Irrigation expert Vidyasagar Rao, principal secretary SK Joshi, C Murlidhar Rao and other officials will accompany the minister in the talks. The minister will take up the issues with Girish Mahajan and seek Maharastra government’s cooperation. Earlier, the Maharashtra government opposed previous government’s proposal to 152 mt FRL and suggested 148 mt FRL instead of Tummidihatti to avoid submergence.

Maharashtra agreed to give 160 tmc out of 275 tmc availability, though, it is possible to draw only 40 to 45 tmc from Tummidihatti. Besides, a barrage near Kaleshwaram 20 km low level to Godavari, Telangana wants to construct two more barrages up to Ellampally. Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao spoken to his Maharashtra counterpart Devendera Fadnavis and sought his cooperation in this regard. (NSS)
