Harish appeals to farmers not to end lives

Major Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today said the Godavari and Indravathi rivers would be linked to provide waters for irrigation through Nizamsagar.

Laying foundation stone for the Rs 4.20-crore Chinchelli Lift Irrigation Scheme in Birkur mandal of Nizamabad district along with Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Harish Rao said the TRS government was keen on wiping out tears of distressed farmers in the State. “We will provide all possible assistance to the farmers, who refrain from ending their lives”, he urged. Efforts will be made to shift Godavari waters to Singur and from there the water will be diverted to Nizamasagar.

Attributing the suicides of farmers in the State to the deliberate attempts of previous governments, Harish said had the latter built irrigation projects in the region, the farmers would not have ended their lives. Harish Rao also asked the Opposition parties not to make a hue and cry on every issue. “They must recall whether their regimes built even a single irrigation project in the Telangana region?, he asked. He also appealed to farmers to not to lose heart as the government was alive to provide them all help. The government will offer remunerative prices to their produce and storage facility in the godowns being built now, he added. (NSS)
