Harassment drives two women to suicide

A 35-year-old woman committed suicide allegedly due to harassment for additional dowry.

The victim, B. Shailaja, took the extreme step by hanging to the ceiling at her residence in Vinayak Nagar on Saturday night. According to Neredmet police, Shailaja, was married to one Rajesh in 2003. They also had an 11-year-old son. However, she was allegedly being harassed by her husband and in-laws for additional dowry of Rs. 6 lakh which consequently drove her to suicide.

The Neredmet police have registered a case under Sections 498A and 306 and began investigations.

In another case, Nasreen Begum, 25, committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling at her residence in Habeeb Fatima Nagar of Borabanda on Saturday night. She was allegedly being harassed by her husband Imran Khan for the last few weeks. The SR Nagar police have registered a case under Section 304 B against Imran Khan and are investigating. (INN)
