Guv, CM pay floral tributes to Gandhi at Bapu Ghat

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi on Friday, Governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, ministers and others paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat at Langar Houze on his 146th birth anniversary.

Even before the Governor’s arrival, the Chief Minister KCR reached Bapu Ghat in the morning and gave a warm welcome to the former. Both of them walked up to the Bapu’s Samadhi and offered floral tributes followed by others. They also spent some time listening to all-religious prayer, discourses from Holy books and cultural program presented by artistes.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Rajya Sabha member K. Keshav Rao, Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahamood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, Telangana State Tourism Corporation Managing Director Christina, Protocol Secretary Aravind Singh, Hyderabad district Collector Rahul Bojja and several officials were present.

Earlier, TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and other Congress leaders offered floral tributes at Bapu Ghat. A steady stream of school children and general public visited the Bapu Ghat on the occasion.

Later, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao proceeded to the Legislative Assembly and placed flowers at the pedestal of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the premises. Assembly Speaker S. Madusudhana Chary, Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud and other legislators offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. (NSS)
