Gurgaon police chief says Saudi accused has diplomatic immunity

Gurgaon, Sept. 9 : Gurgaon’s Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk on Wednesday said the Saudi Arabian individual who has been allegedly accused of raping two Nepali girls enjoys a diplomatic immunity.

“The identity of the accused has been affirmed by the police. Now, we know who the accused is. He has diplomatic immunity in India. We are acting as per the law,” Virk told ANI.

“The police would need the assistance of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the concerned embassies while investigating the matter,” he added.

Virk also pointed out that the police cannot approach the accused directly, as this is prohibited as per law. Hence it will ask for assistance from the MEA.

Police on Tuesday rescued two women who alleged that they had been tortured, sexually assaulted and kept in bondage for months in the home of a diplomat from Saudi Arabia. (ANI)
