Gujarat IAS officer Vijaylakshmi Joshi retires ahead of schedule

Gujarat cadre IAS officer Vijaylakshmi Joshi, head of Swachh Bharat mission has resigned even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious project completes a year. The 1980-batch officer sought voluntary retirement for personal reasons and it has been accepted by the government.

She was posted as Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation, which was reportedly not to her liking.

“She was a strong contender for the post of Secretary, Commerce, because earlier she was there as Additional Secretary and also Special Secretary but the PM overlooked her and posted Rita Teotia, also a Gujarat cadre officer, in the Ministry of Commerce and Industries,”

Vijya Laxmi felt she won’t get mainstream posting in Modi govt., says official.

Nearly 13 IAS officers had resigned between 2001, when Modi became Gujarat chief minister. The reports says no less than 56 IAS officers had resigned prematurely from their Central postings opting to be repatriated with their states or to retire – since the Modi government came to power in 2014.
