For rich men’s sport, govt. toys with the lives of poor

According to Human rights activists the Hyderabad Golf Association and the government, in the name of promoting Golf, is toying with the lives of general public. The latest victim of this sport is Mohammed Ilyas Khan. According to social activist and active leader of Aam Aadmi Party Mohammed Afzal, Mohammed Ilyas was badly affected with the Hyderabad Golf Club constructed on the 52 acre land at Naya Qila. Dejected over failure of state administration especially Hyderabad Collector in providing alternate land, he attempted suicide on Thursday by consuming poison. He was rushed to a private hospital by the police where his condition is said to be out of danger.

The incident occurred at 11 am which created tension in the area. Locals and relatives of Ilyas Khan have to say that Dalit farmers and Muslim families have been cultivating on nearly 51 acre of land. But during Telugu Desam regime the land was handed over to Hyderabad Golf Association to provide entertainment to well-off government officers and industrialists. After which SOUL, Forum for Better Hyderabad and many other NGOs and activists engaged in preservation of heritage signs protested strongly.

Interestingly Chief Minister KCR and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Mahmood Ali were also among the supporters of the protestors but sadly they fail to provide alternate land to those who became homeless and lost their lands due to construction of Golf Course.

Ilyas Khan’s father late Mahboob Khan was said to have served in Asif Jahi military due to which he was presented 1.5 acre land during Asif Jahi period. Unable to get compensatory land for his lost land due to Golf Course, Ilyas consumed poisonous chemical and climbed on Golf Club; however police intervened in time and saved his life.
