Gold biscuits worth Rs 83.88 lakh seized from air passenger

Kozhikode: Gold biscuits worth more than Rs 83 lakh were seized today from a passenger who arrived from Dubai at the Karipur international airport here.

As many as 28 gold biscuits totally weighing 3.265 kgs and valued at Rs 83.88 lakh were found inside the battery compartment of an emergency lamp when Customs officials checked the baggage of the 25-year-old passenger Jabir, hailing from the district, Air Customs Superintendent G Balagopal said.

Acting on a tip-off from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, the seizure was made by a team led by Air Customs Intelligence Deputy Commissioner S Sivaprasad and Balagopal.

The passenger has been taken into custody, he added.
