Girl raped for second time as police trap to nab culprits fails

According to police, two men – in their 20s – accosted the girl and her boyfriend at an isolated spot along Nava Road here on the evening of July 7 and raped the girl at knife-point after dragging her to a forest.

In a bizarre sequence of events in Jalna town, a 17-year-old rape victim was again allegedly raped by the same offenders when the police, to set a trap, asked her to meet the culprits.

The girl was raped second time last evening following which the authorities today suspended Assistant Police Inspector Vinod Ejjapwar for the botched up operation. The two alleged rapists have been arrested.

According to police, two men – in their 20s – accosted the girl and her boyfriend at an isolated spot along Nava Road here on the evening of July 7 and raped the girl at knife-point after dragging her to a forest. They also took her mobile phone and shot a video of the act.

After the girl reached home, she narrated the incident to her mother, who lodged a police complaint.

The two culprits started calling the girl on her mother’s number, demanding Rs 2,000 for returning her phone with the video clip. Last evening, the accused asked her to come to a fly-over and collect her phone.

Police then asked her to go there so that the accused could be trapped. However, as the girl rode her two-wheeler towards the spot, the accused duo intercepted her along the way, took her into the bushes and again allegedly raped her.

The girl then went back to the police, who combed the area and caught the duo. Her mobile phone was recovered, but police found no objectionable video in it.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, inspector general of police Vishwas Nangre Patil today reached here and ordered suspension of assistant inspector Ejjapwar. Patil said that he had asked the sub-divisional police officer Dikshitkumar Gedam to conduct an investigation into the matter.

Police did not disclose the names of the accused but said they could have committed similar crimes in the past.
