GHMC poll expenditure limit set at Rs. 2 lakh

Telangana State Commissioner V. Nagi Reddy informed that the State Election Commission has fixed the expenditure limit of Rs. 2 lakh for the candidates who would be contesting forthcoming GHMC elections.

Further, the deposit will be Rs. 2,500/- for candidates belonging to SC and ST castes while it will be Rs. 5,000 for BC and OC candidates. Nagi Reddy said that the contesting candidates should not have more than two children as per the rules of the Election Commission.

Nagi Reddy, along with GHMC Special Commissioner & Special Officer Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy held a meeting with all the political parties today at Tourism Plaza at Begumpet. Interacting with the political parties, the SEC said that the authorities would take all measures for the conduct of GHMC elections in a free and fair manner. Seeking cooperation of all political parties, he said that the entire election process needs to be completed by 31st January as per the directions of High Court.

The State Election Commissioner said that the list of polling stations, delimitation of wards and electoral rolls were already finalized. He said the notification for the elections after State Government approves the list of reserved wards.

He said that the Election Commission has directed for appointment of Returning Officer for each ward. He said 10-12,000 EVMs would be provided in nearly 7,700 polling stations across the GHMC limits. The randomization of the first phase of the EVMs has also been completed said the Commissioner, SEC.

The State Election Commission and the GHMC is planning to involve various organizations and residential welfare associations to increase the polling percentage.
