GHMC chief confirms deletion of 4.77 lakh voters

GHMC Commissioner and Hyderabad District Election Officer Somesh Kumar on Saturday confirmed the deletion of 4.77 lakh voters in the GHMC limits.

Speaking to media persons here, Somesh Kumar said that the names were deleted after due verification and issuing of notices to the electors. Names of those voters were deleted who did not respond to the notices issued by the GHMC.  He said that the GHMC had identified 27.12 lakh voters who have enrolled twice, dead or door lock cases. Of them, notices were served to 25.34 lakh voters as per the directions of the Election Commission of India. After due verification and issue of notices, 4.77 lakh names have been deleted, he added.

The Commissioner said that the list of deleted names have been kept in Election Commission website. In Greater Hyderabad limits, 1.06 lakhs voters have been enrolled twice in the electoral rolls, out of which 53,980 electors have been given notices and the names have been deleted. The electors who are having below the age mark about 22,121 electors after issuing notices 5,458 names have been deleted, he added. About 65,000 dead electors have been identified out of which after due verification 22,500 names have been deleted, he said. With regard to change of address 16.41 lakhs electors identified after issuing notices 3.49 lakhs names have been deleted. Nearly 876,000 door lock cases after due verification 46,000 names have been deleted the Commissioner has clarified to this effect.

As per the directions of the Election Commission of India after verifying three times and also issuing notices then only the action has been initiated, he said. (INN)
