Gaza crossing shut after rocket attack

Gaza: Israel On Tuesday closed down Erez crossing on the border with Gaza Strip after a rocket was fired from the coastal enclave into Israel.

The shut down came after unidentified militants fired a rocket from the Strip into southern Israel, Xinhua quoted Israeli army officials as saying.

The rocket fell near the border fence. No damage or injuries were reported.

The Hamas-run ministry of interior in a statement said Israel closed down Erez crossing point until further notice.

The statement said only humanitarian cases, mainly patients going to Israeli and west Bank hospitals, will be allowed to cross through Erez into Israel.

The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli blockade since the Islamic Hamas movement’s violent takeover of the coastal enclave.

Israel controls two passages, the Erez Crossing and Kerem Shalom on the borders with the salient.
