Gas leak affects school students; probe on

Some 25 students of International School of Excellence at Toli Chowki here fell ill due to poisonous gas leak from an unidentified neighboring area. The students were rushed to various hospitals and were being treated.

State Minorities Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan visited the hospitals and enquired about the treatment being given to the patients. He also spoke to the Hyderabad district Collector and West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The authorities concerned like the MRO, GHMC and police officials told the Minority Commission Chairman that necessary inquiry was on to identify the source of gas leak and stern action will be taken against those responsible. The Commission also sought a detailed report from the GHMC Zonal Commissioner, Dy Commissioner of Police and Hyderabad District Educational Officer on the incident and action taken.

It is learnt that out of 14 students rushed to Candy Hospital at Tolichowki, 10 students were sent back saying their condition was normal. The remaining four were under treatment. While the school management claimed that poisonous gas from outside the school affected the students, the police suspect that the gas leak might have caused in the school chemical laboratory. (NSS)
