New Delhi: Reacting to France’s retaliatory raids in Syria after the horrific 13/11 carnage in Paris, defence expert P.K. Sehgal on Monday said that ample precaution must be taken to ensure that the civilian causalities and the collateral damage is minimal.
“Raqqa is the capital of ISIS in Syria. The headquarters are located there. The command centers as well as the communication centers are located there. If every precaution is taken only to target the military targets of the ISIS and not the civilians, then it is a good strike,” P.K. Sehgal told ANI.
“But, in all these strikes ample precaution must be taken to ensure that the civilian causalities and the collateral damage of the civilian property is minimal, otherwise the cycle of violence, retribution and counter violence will continue to accentuate,” he insisted.
He stressed that if precaution is not taken while targeting the ISIS centers, the refugee problem, which is already there in Europe, would accelerate because of the civilian causalities.
Earlier, true to their vow of retaliation, France carried out massive raids in Syria, their biggest to date, in co-ordination with US forces, striking the ISIS stronghold in Raqqa just days after the terror outfit carried a series of coordinated attacks that killed around 129 people.
According to reports, the airstrikes struck a command centre, recruitment centre for jihadists, a munitions depot, and a training camp for fighters. The sites targeted had previously been identified on reconnaissance flights.
A defence official has claimed the raids to be ‘massive’ and that two jihadi strikes in Raqqa.
Earlier, French President Francois Hollande said the Paris attack were an act of war that that been organised, planned from the outside with ‘inside’ help and swore a merciless retribution. (ANI)
