Four children killed after wall collapses in Andhra Pradesh

With heavy rains lashing Andhra Pradesh for the past few days, four children were killed in a tragic incident as a wall collapsed in Rothu Kunta village, in Kadapa district.

The deceased children were identified as Shivakumar (12), Vasu (10), Ganesh (8) and Ganesh (6). The children were playing in the abandoned house when the wall collapsed, killing them.

According to the police, the mishap has taken the death toll of rain-related incidents to eight.

Meanwhile, in a tele-conference held to take stock of the incessant rains in the state, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to remain alert for the next 48 hours. “I have asked officials of Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts to be vigilant for the next 48 hours,” he said. The chief minister directed the officials to distribute 20 kg rice and two litres kerosene to the flood victims within a day.

Heavy rains triggered by the north east monsoon continued to lash several districts of Andhra Pradesh flooding low-lying areas and throwing normal life completely out of gear.

The heavy rains led to inundation of low-lying areas in towns and villages in Chittoor and other districts. Several rivers, rivulets and other water bodies were in spate and movement of vehicles became difficult with water gushing on to the roads.
