Four arrested for Italian worker’s murder in Dhaka

Dhaka, Oct. 26 : The Bangladesh Police have arrested four people for their involvement in the murder case of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella in Dhaka.

The police have also recovered the motorbike, which was used in the murder.

Tamzid Ahmed Rubel alias Shooter Rubel, Sakhawat Hossain alias Sharif, Russell Chowdhury and Minhazul Arefin Russell are the four suspects, The Daily Star reported.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Miah said the Detective Branch team conducted many raids in Gulshan and Badda areas in the capital, which led to their arrest.

The four suspects were later individually interrogated by the team.

Sharif, in the initial interrogation, told the police that Minhazul Arefin Russell took the bike from him in the morning and returned it to him at night.

The police have not revealed the motive behind the murder.

On September 28, Tavella, a project manager of Netherlands-based NGO, was shot dead in the high-security diplomatic zone in Gulshan by three men in a motorbike.

The Islamic States of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) had claimed responsibility for the crime. However, the Bangladesh Police denied the claim and said that they did not find even the “slightest link” of the militant outfit’s involvement in it. (ANI)
