Former SDM convicted of corruption

Chamba: A former Sub Divisional Magistrate has been convicted for accepting illegal gratification while in office, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment by a local court here.

Special Judge, Chamba, Padam Singh convicted Raj Dev Singh Jasrotia, the then Sub Divisional magistrate (SDM) of Tissa, for accepting illegal gratification and sentenced him to three years imprisonment in two offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal misconduct.

The special Judge sentenced him to one year imprisonment under section 7 and two years imprisonment for offence under section 13(2) and also fine of Rs 5,000 in each case.

Both the sentences would run concurrently.

In default of payment of fine, the convict shall undergo simple imprisonment for three months under each offence, the judge said.

The court has also convicted co-accused K V Krishna Mohan Rao and C H Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and sentenced them to undergo simple imprisonment for six months and pay a fine Rs 5,000 each.
