Former AP woman Cricketer Durga Bhavani ends life

Woman Cricketer Durga Bhavani committed suicide in Vijayawada on Sunday. She was found hanging to ceiling fan at her house in Gangireddula Dibba in Gunadala area of Vijayawada this evening. ADurgs Bhavani took this extreme step when she was alone in the house.

Bhavani was an all-rounder. She represented the Andhra Cricket Association between 2007 and 2009 and won Ranji Trophy. In 2009 she filed a case against then secretary of ACA, Chamundeswaranath, alleging sexual harassment. Chamundeswaranath was sacked after other women players too complained against him. However, she withdrew the complaint later.

According to Machavaram police, Bhavani was found hanging from the ceiling in her house at around 3.15 pm on Sunday. The police, however, did not find any suicide note. They said preliminary investigation revealed that family problems had forced her to end her life. Her body is sent to the Government hospital for postmortem.

Family members of Durga, said she married Satya Prasad, a physical education teacher . She had a three-year-old daughter. Report said Durga Bhavani developed differences with her husband and were found quarreling frequently.
