Third accident in Makkah: Fire broke out in hotel; Four injured and 1,500 Hajj pilgrims forced to vacate

Makkah: Fire broke out in 11th floor of the 15-floor Makkah hotel. Four Yemeni pilgrims got minor injuries.

Director of Media and Spokesman of Civil Defense, Col. Abdullah Al-Orabi Al-Harathi told that the incident took place at 2:45 a.m. on Monday.

He also told that 1,500 pilgrims were staying at the hotel. They were evacuated as a precautionary measure. They were later permitted to come back to the hotel. Civil Defense Teams put out the fire immediately. The fire was caused due to short-circuit in one of electrical connections of a room.

Earlier, on Thursday more than 1,000 Asian Hajj Pilgrims were evacuated from their hotel in Makkah when fire broke out. In that two Indonesian pilgrims got injuries.

For the past one decade, the Hajj has almost been without any incident but 108 people, including foreign pilgrims, died earlier this month when a crane accident took place in Haram Shareef.
