Muzaffarnagar: A 30-year-old farmer was shot dead and his brother critically injured by unidentified assailants while they were working in the fields at Khindriya village here today.
Police said the deceased was identified as Kallu. The injured, Deepak, was rushed to hospital in serious condition.
The incident took place this evening when the brothers were working in their fields at Khindriya village under Chapar police station.
Police rushed to the spot and began a search operation.
Meanwhile, irate villagers refused to hand over the body of the victim. Security has been tightened in the village and additional police force has been deployed in the area.
