Fall in Hindu population a matter of concern: Singhal

Describing the fall in the share of Hindu population and the rise in that of Muslims as a matter of “grave concern”, Vishwa Hindu Parishad patron Ashok Singhal today dared the government to show courage and implement uniform civil code.

“The numbers of Hindus are constantly falling. It’s a matter of grave concern. Our saints have often warned about the fall in their number and the rise in the numbers of Muslims. We must think about a solution to this issue,” he told a press conference.

He said a solution was needed to address the issue.

“Even the Supreme Court has spoken about uniform civil code. It’s about showing courage. Can they (government) show courage and implement it?” he said.

His response was to a question about his views on BJP MP Yogi Adityanath’s demand that the government take steps to check Muslim population growth.

VHP’s international president Pravin Togadia besides Aditynath have sought curbs against Muslims following the census report which showed that the share of Hindus had fallen below 80 per cent of the total population.
