Electric wire falls on train in MP, halts rail traffic

Betul (MP): An overhead electric wire fell on a moving Jaipur-bound superfast train triggering sparks at Betul station of Central Railway (CR) here today, following which the rail traffic on the route was hit for an hour, a railway official said.
No one was injured in the incident. As soon as the wire fell on the train, the Nagpur-based control room’s power supply tripped, Betul Railway Station Manager V K Paliwal told.
He said that train 12975 on its way to Jaipur from Mysore arrived at the station around 2.04 pm. After two minutes halt, it chugged off but before it could leave the platform, a wire fell on it from an electricity pole, triggering sparks, he said.
Since the Nagpur-based control room’s power supply tripped, the power at Betul station was also knocked out, halting five trains including Mysore-Jaipur Superfast Express, he said.
He said that the first stranded train 12975 was given a green signal in around 50 minutes and thereafter two more passenger trains and goods trains were cleared for departure.
