Education plays a big role in quality governance: Piyush Goyal

Saturday, 8 August,New Delhi: Education would reduce disparity in wealth and power by providing young people with skills and competence as well as promote quality governance, Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said.

“Education must aim at providing future leadership and pursuit of excellence. It must produce good citizens able to serve the country at all times and in all circumstances,” a Power Ministry release quoted Goyal as saying.

The Minister was speaking at an educational seminar in Guwahati on Saturday.

He added that it’s the shared responsibility of educators and the political class, among others, to bring good governance to society.

After taking power at the Centre last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised maximum governance and minimum government.

“Education’s prime aim is to make every individual self-reliant,” the Minister said.

On extremism, Goyal said the root cause is attributed to poverty, illiteracy and ignorance.

“It is the bounden duty of educators to eliminate or eradicate the above through quality education to all, especially the unreached sections of society,” the release said.

Goyal added: “We must preach and practise the Preamble of the Constitution of India, which accords equality to all citizens in faith and truth.”
