‘Dumbfounded’ Congress adopting ‘spit and run’ strategy: Naidu

New Delhi, Aug 6 : Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu today claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is running the most democratic government in the country’s history and slammed the Congress for adopting “spit and run” strategy.

Responding to Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s “arrogant” remark for the ruling dispensation, Naidu said: “Who was arrogant? Who imposed emergency? Who sent all the opposition party ministers to jail? Who put Jayaprakash Narayan, Morarji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the jail? Who did what during emergency of 19 months?”

“And then what result came in the elections, people know all everything. Who in 1989 made 63 MPs exit the Parliament?…. In February 2014, 13 MPs were thrown out of the Parliament. Was this government’s action? Is it because of the arrogance?” he added.

Asserting that the BJP-led NDA believes in democracy and wants to take everybody along, Naidu alleged that the Congress has been very uncharitable to the government and ministers.

“They have not given opportunity to hear Smt. Sushma Swaraj after making baseless allegations. They were not ready to hear the reply that means they were adopting ‘ spit and run’ strategy,” Naidu said.

“That’s why today in the Lok Sabha, Sushma ji has put forward the truth in front of the people. Now, the people, who are criticizing Sushma Swaraj, are making unnecessary allegations. They have been exposed. They are dumbfounded. They have no answer to this,” he added.

Making a statement in the Lok Sabha earlier, Swaraj rubbished all the allegations leveled against her and said that she never asked the UK Government to help former IPL chief Lalit Modi.

Clarifying her actions, Swaraj said there was nothing wrong in helping Lalit Modi’s wife on ‘humanitarian grounds’.

The External Affairs Minister challenged the opposition to present at least one note, letter or email which showed that she asked the UK Government to present Lalit Modi with travel papers. (ANI)
