Dowry harassment drives newly-wed to suicide

A 25-year-old newly-wed woman committed suicide allegedly due to harassment for additional dowry by her husband.

According to LB Nagar, the victim, M. Varsha, resorted to the extreme step by hanging to the ceiling at her residence in New Shivapuri Colony on Sunday night.

Varsha was married to one Ranjit, a Railway official working in Qazipet, in March this year. At the time of marriage Varsha’s parents gave Rs. 10 lakh cash, 50 tolas gold, five kg silver and 150 sq yards plot in Nandi Hills. However, Ranjit was harassing Varsh for the last few weeks demanding additional dowry of Rs. 10 lakh cash and six acre land..

A case under Section 304 has been registered against Ranjit and further investigations are on, according Inspector Srinivas Reddy. (INN)
