Dowry harassment drives housewife to suicide

A 21-year-old woman committed suicide due to harassment allegedly by her in-laws for additional dowry.

According to Tharur police, the victim, G. Sumalatha, was allegedly being harassed by her husband Rajesh Goud, father-in-law Shankar and brother-in-law Mahesh. They allegedly used to harass her over petty issue and also beat her up. Unable to bear their harassment, Sumalatha resorted to the extreme step by setting herself on October 9 at her residence in Tharur of Ranga Reddy district. She was admitted to the Osmania General Hospital where she died on Wednesday night.

Tharur police have registered a case under Sections 498A and 306 against the accused. (INN)
