Don’t shy away from probe if you are clean: CPI (M) tells Sushma

new Delhi, Aug 6 : CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury on Thursday questioned External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s hesitation in ordering a probe into the Lalit Modi controversy and said that she must step down till the inquiry is over.

“The rules made for the government employees should be applicable to her also. There should be an inquiry. And if she is found guilty, she should be taken on the task according to the rules which are made for the government employees,” Yechury told the media here while reacting to Swaraj’s assertion in the Lok Sabha that all the allegations leveled against her were baseless.

“If she is clean then why is she against the investigation, why is she not allowing the inquiry to happen? She should step off her post until the inquiry goes on,” he added.

Making a passionate speech in the Lok Sabha earlier, Swaraj strongly stated that all accusations against her are baseless, adding that she never recommended or requested the British Government to favour Lalit Modi for travel documents.

“Words in such communication are important. If I was recommending, then I would have written that travel documents should be given to Lalit Modi. If I had requested or recommended, then the British Government would have answered the Economic Times query accordingly,” said Swaraj. (ANI)
