Dhoti for men, saree for women: UoH prescribes dress code for convocation

The University of Hyderabad has prescribed a new dress code for its 17th convocation. It has directed all male students to wear kurta dhoti and all female students to wear saree.
Those who are being awarded degree are prescribed dress code as handloom kurta pyjama or dhoti for men while salwar kameez or saree for women. All students must follow the dress code. Apart from that the students are directed to wear only cotton clothes in the function to be held at Shilpa Kala Vedika on October 1.

Students have expressed surprise over the compulsion of dress code. They have even warned to boycott convocation if the orders are not withdrawn.

Some students took to social media against the dress code, complaining of “moral policing” and “Sangh agenda”. One student posted, “Today dress code for convocation, tomorrow it will be compulsory in classes.”
