Demand to withdraw helmet rule for bike riders

Telangana Two-Wheeler Riders’ Association (TTWRA) has urged the State government to withdraw the “compulsory use of helmet” rule by two- wheeler riders.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, TTWRA convener Mohammed Amanullah Khan urged the State government to create awareness among the people on traffic rules. He felt that use of helmet was not an important thing and using helmet will not curb fatal accidents. He also condemned Central government for making helmet use compulsory. He alleged that people were dying in accidents due to driving after consuming spurious liquor and smoking. He reiterated that the police were harassing two-wheeler riders in the name of helmet use.

TTWRA leaders urged the State government to amend the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act 129 immediately, which poses a serious threat to two-wheeler riders. (NSS)
