Delhi’s ‘most wanted’ robber arrested: Police

Delhi’s “most wanted” robber Shahnawaz, who was involved in more than hundred robberies and was being pursued by police forces from 10 states, has been arrested, police said today.

Thirty-two-year-old Shahnawaz, a resident of Chandni Mahal area in Delhi, was arrested by a team of Special Staff of East Police, said DCP Bhairo Singh Gurjar.

With the arrest of Shahnawaz, police claimed to have solved more than 40 cases of sensational robberies committed by him.

He was arrested several times in the past but after getting bail in cases he would abscond. He was subsequently declared proclaimed offender in connection with more than 10 cases.

He was evading arrest for the past two years and police from many states including Delhi Police were on his trail.

During interrogation, he revealed that he was involved in snatching gold chains along with his accomplice Waseem till mid-2014 and afterwards shifted to robbing bank customers on gun point in Delhi and many other cities.

His long list of crimes including robberies and snatching were spread over many cities including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Raipur.

Further investigation into his role in other crimes and verification of his claims is underway, the police officer added.
