Cow smuggler lynching: Police arrest 11 people

Nahan: Eleven people were today arrested by police from Punjab’s Mohali district in connection with the lynching of an alleged cow smuggler in Sirmaur.

Arun Bhandari, Vinay Kumar, Akshya Thakur, Pankaj Sharma, Arun Kaushik, Vikas, Anshu Thakur and Tarun Dutt were arrested from a flat in Dhakaoli village of Mohali, DSP Rajgarh Yogesh Rolta told PTI.

Three others — Mohan Singh, Joginder Singh and Ajmer Singh — were arrested from different locations in the district, the DSP said.

Altogether 12 people, aged between 22 and 32, have so far been arrested in connection with the incident. They will be produced in before a magistrate tomorrow, the DSP said.

Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad today alleged that police had arrested innocent youth on false charges and without any evidence.

VHP leader Manoj Kumar claimed that the cow smuggler, Noman, died in Sarahan hospital hours after he was arrested by police, and demanded a judicial probe into the matter.

The VHP has already submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Himachal Pradesh in this regard, he said.

The cow smuggler was lynched by a mob in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on October 16. Noman, who hailed from Rampur village of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, had succumbed to his injuries in Sarahan hospital where he was taken.
