Couple held for duping people of Rs 2 crore

The city police on Saturday arrested a couple on charges of duping people on the promise of giving them residential sites or giving them with higher monetary returns.

The arrested have been identified as Satyanarayana (56) and his wife Anuradha (49), who used to stay in Chamundipuram in the city, has collected Rs. 2 crore from various people by promising them that they would double the money in short period of time or give them the land if they invest their schemes.

Like wise they have collected lakhs of amount from the people whom they knew. One of the victim Vijayalakshmi, has paid the couple Rs. 11.4 lakh over a year ago. When she asked to refund the amount the accused gave her a cheque, which has bounced, Vijayalakshmi lodged a complaint against the couple.

Similarly many others, started asking for refund. Initially the duo gas them the cheques and promissory notes. Then they shifted there residence in Chamundipuram. Later they absconded.

Thirteen persons have filed a cheating complaint against the couple. The police official said . “The amount given varied from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh to over Rs. 10 lakh and even Rs. 90 lakh.”

The couple were later traced in Kathriguppe in Bengaluru’s Banashankari.
