UP cop smashes 65-year-old man typewriter

Lucknow: Krishna Kumar, for the last 35 years, has been sitting outside GPO in Lucknow, earning Rs 50 daily after spending 10 hours by typing hindi on his old typewriter.

But Sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar vented his ire was at the old man typewriter, the only source of income for Krishna.

On Saturday morning, the sub-inspector asked Krishna to vacate the spot where he was working for the last three decades. When he protested, the cop reportedly abused him and kicked the typewriter repeatedly till it broke into pieces.

“I have been sitting outside the GPO for 35 years with my typewriter, he (the policeman) just came, started abusing (me) and broke my typewriter,” Kumar told ANI.

When the pictures of the incident went viral on social media, Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav ordered the suspension of the sub-inspector and also instructed District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to visit Mr Kumar and hand him two new typewriters (with English and Hindi typeface).

However, Kumar accepted only one out of them with the Hindi fonts.
