Constable shot dead at police outpost, 1 arrested

A constable was allegedly shot dead by three goons at a police outpost here, police said today.

City Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said, after constable Sudesh was shot dead by three goons last night at a police outpost in Banthala under Loni police station, 10 teams were formed for combing operation in the area.

Around 12:30 pm, a police team signalled three youths riding a motorcycle to stop near Chirodi Bhatta Road village.

Instead of halting for checking they fired indiscriminately towards the policemen, prompting them to retaliate.

During the exchange, one of the youths sustained bullet injuries. While his two accomplices managed to flee, the injured, identified as Gyasi, was arrested.

Police suspect Gyasi to be an active member of Harendra Khadkhadi gang.

Gyasi was rushed to Narendra Mohan Hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.

During interrogation, Gyasi told police that they killed the constable last night to create a terror in the area.

The absconding duo will be nabbed soon, Sharma added
