Congress urges Karnataka Govt. to nab murderers of Kalburgi

New Delhi, Aug.30 : The Congress Party on Sunday urged the Karnataka Government to nab the murderers of noted Kannad scholar M M Kalburgi.

“I would implore the state government to take the fastest possible action, and the true culprits must be apprehended irrespective of political colour. If in particular, they are such extremist organizations, then punishment should be swift and exemplary,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told ANI.

“If it is true that this gentleman has been murdered by elements opposed to his liberal thinking, elements of the extreme right wing Fascist groups like Bajrang Dal, then, I think, it is a most regrettable, terrible, deplorable, unfortunate day for India,” he added.

Singhvi said, “He was a scholar of repute, a person who spoke his mind, an academician. I cannot understand how people can be so absolutely insensitive as to have indulged in this heinous crime.”

Kalburgi was shot dead by unknown persons in Dharwad on Sunday morning.

He was rushed to the District Civil Hospital, but was declared dead by doctors. (ANI)
