Congress to raise OU students’ woes in Assembly

Congress leaders today made it clear that they would corner the State government in the ensuing legislature session on the Osmania University students’ problems.

The Congress leaders, including former ministers Dr J Geetha Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, MLAs Padmavathi, G Chinna Reddy and Sampath, Rajya Sabha member MA Khan and others visited the Osmania University hostels on Friday and enquired with the students about their problems.

Speaking on this occasion, Geetha Reddy said she was shocked to see the worse conditions of the hostels. She asked the TRS government to know that ‘Bangaru Telangana’ does not mean simply opening hostel messes. She said the sanitation condition was hopelessly bad. “I enquired with the sanitation workers about the bad condition of bathrooms and lavatories. They said they are not cleaning bathrooms and lavatories due to non-availability of water”, she said. She also said the Osmania University students played a key role in Telangana movement. AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi carved out separate Telangana State because of Osmania University students’ sacrifices, she added.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy alleged that the TRS government came into being because of the OU students’ sacrifices. But it was not responding to the problems of the Osmania University students. He said the Congress will fight on behalf of Osmania University students for reopening of messes. He said water was not coming to the hostels and the students were facing hardships.

Padmavathi alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who visited China at an expenditure of Rs 2 crore was not releasing Rs 7 crore for the students. “The Chief Minister had announced in the Assembly that he would release Rs 7 crore to waive off the students’ mess charges”, she pointed out.
