Congress demands special Assembly session on Pranahita-Chevella project

The Telangana Congress on Thursday demanded that the State Government convene an all party meeting and a special Assembly session to discuss the proposed change in design of Pranahita-Chevella project.

Speaking to media persons after attending a meeting on Irrigation projects at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Chief Minister needs to clarify on why he was insisting on change of design. He said he could not take individual decisions on such an important project which already got approvals from the Central Water Commission and nearly Rs. 10,000 crore has already been spent on it.

Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy said that the change of design would trigger inter-state dispute between four States. He said that the Chief Minister’s proposal was only aimed at delaying the project.

Addressing a separate press conference, TPCC Chief Spokesperson Shravan Kumar said that the State Government has hired the same consultants who originally designed the Pranahita-Chevella project. (INN)
