Congress demands Punjab CM’s resignation over `lawlessness`

Chandigarh, Dec.13 : Taking on the Akali Dal-BJP government in Punjab on the state of “lawlessness” and “political vendetta”, the Congress Party on Sunday demanded Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s resignation, saying the recent incidents of “gundaism” must be investigated by a sitting High Court judge.

“Lawlessness and political vendetta reigns are supreme in Punjab. An Akali leader ‘killed’ a girl and her body was dragged by police. In another incident, an Akali Dal leader chopped off hands and legs of two men. One of them succumbed to his injuries, while another is still struggling,” Congress leader Randeep Sujrewala told ANI.

The Punjab Government treats any death and rape in a casual, rather in a gruesome manner, he added.

“We demand that the Chief Minister should immediately resign and both the separate incidents of gundaism of Akali Dal-BJP Government must be investigated by a sitting High Court judge,” he added.

One person was brutally murdered, while another critically injured at the farm house of liquor contractor and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) supporter Shiv Lal Doda alias Sholly in Fazilka’s Abohar constituency on Friday afternoon.

In another incident, on Saturday night, a bus owned by a ruling SAD leader ran over a teenaged girl in Channu village of Muktsar District. (ANI)
