Congress to approach ECI against deletion of voters’ name

Former minister and Congress senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy has accused the TRS Government of hatching a conspiracy to delete over 40% voters from the electoral rolls in Hyderabad district due to the fear of losing next GHMC elections.

Speaking to media persons here, Shashidhar Reddy informed that he, along with Congress MLC MS Prabhakar, made a representation to Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal complaining that the TRS Government was trying to deny the voting rights to lakhs of people who could vote against it in GHMC elections. “The ruling TRS hatched a deep-rooted conspiracy to delete names of voters, especially the Settles from Seemandhra, who have settled down here and are expected to vote against TS in the GHMC and also the Sanathnagar by-elections and deny them the right to vote, which the Constitution has guaranteed,” he said.

“Taking advantage of the linking the Voter ID with Aadhar Card, which has subsequently discontinued, the GHMC officials had marked for deletion 17,40,284 (42.78%) voters in Hyderabad district and 1,31,135 (54.22%) voters in Sanathnagar Assembly constituency on the ground of “shifted” and “door locked”. This is shocking,” Shashidhar Reddy said.

The Congress leader said he would approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) if the local authorities fail to take action on his complaint within a week. (INN)
